post-thanksgiving/black wednesday/merry november ft. sangria recipe

i hope y’all had an amazing thanksgiving! and i hope all your shopping dreams came true if you’re a black friday shopper. today’s post is going to be more of a story time/life update of sorts featuring a sangria i’ve made the past couple thanksgivings. if you get anything out of this post i hope it’s at least an idea for the easiest sangria ever. i’m clearly proud of myself, as you can see in this pic.

footage of me on thursday after the residual effects of black wednesday wore off

it’s my second black wednesday/thanksiving/black friday out of the retail world. you might be wondering why that’s a big deal. if you have to ask, you probs have not worked retail. i worked at a mall for about 5 or so years and not only do i avoid black friday shopping like the plague, i also avoid malls in general. black friday shopping was never “fun” for me. i was always rushing into work after dealing with god-awful traffic, and not to mention,  having to figure out when i was working so i could coordinate plans with my family every single holiday. it’s literally so liberating not worrying about having to haul a*s to the mall to survive my shifts. anyway, last year was my first official year free of retail and it was my first black wednesday i could officially celebrate.

black(out) wednesday is probably one of the best holidays. people are just trying to live their best lives before they put on stretchy pants and eat and drink all the things. to be clear – i do not encourage blacking out – drink safely, don’t drink and drive, drink water, eat some foods, don’t leave your phone or wallet in the uber, stay with your friends, etc. black wednesday is like the epitome of YOLO, which is why my black wednesday last year resulted in one of my bffs taking care of me while we were in one of those huge handicap stalls, my favorite purse breaking (RIP), struggling to get up the stairs to my house, falling asleep on my bedroom floor with my jacket still on, and waking up to my wonderful mom checking on me. bless my parent’s hearts for always taking care of me no matter what.

so you might be wondering what “merry november” means. it’s the term i use to describe the existential crisis of wanting to give fall/thanksgiving the moment they deserve but also not being able to wait for christmas so you have pumpkin-scented candles burning while listening to christmas music. and speaking of my retail days, i used to be traumatized af by christmas music since i listened to it for HOURS on end at work and literally never wanted to turn 93.9 on ever again. now that my retail days are behind me, i can honestly say i’m back to loving christmas jams.

now onto the most significant contribution i make to thanksgiving, and any holiday tbh, the adult beverage. i think i heard about this sangria recipe from instagram or something along those lines. i think it’s very thanksgiving-y but you could definitely make this for christmas too.  it’s literally the easiest thing in the world: just get you some dry af white wine, apples and cranberries, a giant pitcher, and family/friends to share it with. honestly the hardest part of this whole thing is chopping the apples lololol.

for this year’s sangria i used a sauv blanc, but you can use any white wine you like. you could even use red wine if that’s what your heart desires. it’s already pretty sweet and tart with the apples (i used mcintosh) but if you want it sweeter, you can use moscato or riesling. it’s pretty essential to let the apples get all cozy with the cranberries. after we finished the wine, we used champagne because YOLO and because more is more.

so that’s the end of my franticness about thanksgiving and black wednesday and my overall love for the holidays. i hope you enjoyed! i post every saturday so stay tuned… and THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to everyone who has been taking the time to read (or even skim) my blog and have shown me so much love and support. y’all are the real MVPS. ok now i’m off to go decorate my christmas tree.
