my fav foundations and my not-so-fav foundations

greetings friends! hope y’all are enjoying this zero degree saturday. today’s post is going to be about foundations that i love and other ones that aren’t necessarily bad, they just didn’t work out for me like i would’ve hoped. let me start by saying that i’ve mentioned this 42984093 times before, but i have dry skin and i’m trying to get all the hydration and dewiness up in this b*tch. this means i gravitate toward more medium coverage foundations that have a smooth/glowy/satin finish. i avoid matte foundations like the plague. i know there are people out there with many different skin types and foundations preferences. you do you boo. to each their own!

that candle is a mood

if you haven’t read my make up favs post yet, feel free to check it out because i obsess over two of the foundations pictured above that i’ll mention again here today. let’s start with what didn’t work out for me. the three foundations on the right were pretty big misses in their own separate ways. the it cosmetics one is pretty pricey, so i was disappointed that not only did i not like the formula, but the shade range isn’t that great either. mine is in medium tan and like i’m essentially medium tan in everything else in the makeup world yet somehow this foundation was too light for me. idk what went wrong there. but in any case, it was too thick for my preference and while it didn’t make my skin look bad, i don’t reach for it because of the shade and formula. i regret not returning it thinking i might give it another chance.

almost every youtube beauty influencer i watch raves about the wet n wild foundation. so i’m like yoooo i’m gonna love this too. that would be a no. first of all, i’m pretty sure i bought three shades of this foundation in my quest to find my perfect shade and even then i still couldn’t find it. it doesn’t smell great. and it’s way too matte for my liking. so now i’m just hoarding these wet n wild foundations for no good reason. i’m not saying i don’t like wet n wild products because i will be the first one to hype their megaglo highlight powders. because they’re affordable af, it didn’t break my bank purchasing multiple shades but again i should have returned them because at the end of the day a foundation is almost the same price as a bottle of wine lololol.

this last miss is a tough one because i love colourpop. if you don’t believe me, check out my last post about their liquid lipsticks. my experience with this foundation was an odd one. the first time i wore it i f*cking loved it. my skin looked so flawless and i just remember loving the way my skin looked whenever i looked in the mirror. however i remember the first time i wore it, it was only for a few hours and i was indoors most of the time in air conditioning (this was over the summer). the second time i wore it, i noticed that i liked it a little less. it didn’t wear as well and i remember dry patches and areas that looked kinda cakey. i don’t even really like cake in real life so i definitely don’t want that sh*t on my face.

the third time i wore this foundation it was for a night out in which i was sweating profusely after dancing at a bar. i came home and was SHOCKED at how awful my foundation looked. it had settled into lines in my face that i didn’t even know existed. it created smile lines in my cheeks that are not there when i’m not wearing makeup so like how is this possible!? let me just say i haven’t worn it since because that was sort of traumatizing. i’m not trying to wear a foundation that makes me look 1329487 years old by the end of the night. not cute. so while it’s affordable, it’s a no from me.

now that we got that over with, let’s move onto foundations i love. i cannot LIVEEEE without the loreal pro-glow and the too faced born this way foundation. i’m completely obsessed. and although i love the nars one, i have to admit that the too faced has my heart way more. i mix a little of the loreal with the too faced to create my perfect shade and formula. i prefer to use brushes for foundation (post on fav brushes to come in the future) because it’s easier aka i’m too lazy to use a beauty sponge. the too faced one is pricey ($39) but i believe it’s worth it.

speaking of pricey, the nars foundation is just about $50. fifty. FITTY. that’s like your power bill right there y’all. i never thought i’d made it to the point in life that i would be okay spending that much on foundation. but this foundation is beautiful, a good medium to full coverage, and you can’t mistake that glow it leaves on your face. i also want to add that i shade matched myself perfectly online because i’m too lazy to do so in the store (laziness is a theme in my life if you haven’t noticed) and if that’s not talent, idk what it is.

so there you have it homies, my foundation hits and misses. i think foundation can really make or break your look depending on formula and shade. plzzz let me know if you have any foundation recommendations you think i might like! and maybe JUST MAYBE i’ll put down my too faced born this way (cue lady gaga born this way BABY I WAS BORN THIS WAAAYYYY) foundation down for a sec.

if you made it to the end of this post you’re a real one and can i just say does anyone else feel like january has felt like a million years long?!?!?! k bye see u next saturday!
